LetsGetChecked Review (pros & cons of testing at home)

Regular pathology testing is a great way to not only check for health problems but also identify issues before they become a problem.

This Letsgetchecked.com review focuses on a new pathology company who is revolutionizing the way you get blood tests done.

Similar to how Uber changed the way we catch taxis and Air BnB changed the way we booked hotels - Letsgetchecked are aiming to change the way we do blood testing.

The old-fashioned rules and outdated approach of our medical system can make the blood testing you need done an unnecessary challenge.

  • The doctor refuses to prescribe tests because of restrictions with medicare, insurance or they don’t see why testing is important
  • Some extra fees for labs and without interpretation of numbers
  • Traveling to the hospital and lab several times, spending your precious time - and because most blood tests need a fasting sample everyone is there at the same time
  • Feeling stressed and out of your comfort zone during the lab testing
  • Inaccurate results that lead to unnecessary treatment and more testing

Have you ever experienced this before?

No wonder people put off getting blood tests done!

If you ever faced a problem with getting tests done, LetsGetChecked might be an option.

LetsGetChecked is a successful Irish start-up that has grown into a trusted company that provides a great number of at-home blood tests at competitive prices.

And they are available in most major countries.

In this article, I’ll cover the main highlights of LetsGetChecked services and a few drawbacks. I’ll also describe my personal experience with my LetsGetChecked Review and explain how it works.

5 Benefits of LetsGetChecked Services

At-Home Testing Without Hidden Fees

LetsGetChecked is a health testing company but with a patient-focused approach and cutting-edge technologies. To see what makes Letsgetchecked different, let’s have  a look at these two examples:

Scenario I (Traditional Visiting the Doctor)

When you are feeling out of whack, you decide to schedule a consultation with your doctor and do some testing to find out your current health status. However, not always everything goes smoothly and you only receive general feedback and some basic recommendations on diet and lifestyle.

Or worse, just told that you are stressed or depressed.

Then, if the symptoms remain, you visit a doctor again (this is an additional fee). However, despite your complaints, the doctor does not refer you for the pathology tests you need, even if you insist.

Finally, when you get the green light to do the blood tests to reveal the underlying cause of your symptoms, you have to go to the lab and then to the doctor again, and then probably take some additional tests.

All this results in consultation fees, testing fees, and follow-up appointments.

The main disadvantages:

  • You spend a lot of time traveling to the clinic and lab
  • You spend money each time you visit a doctor, plus lab fees

Scenario II (Testing with LetsGetChecked)

LetsGetChecked doesn’t require getting a prescription from your doctor or going personally to the lab. You can do the testing in the comfort of your home just following simple instructions or contact the team of LetsGetChecked for assistance.

All you have to do is to order the kit or buy the test kit online.

Delivery of the tests is available in the following areas:

  • Europe (14 countries, including the UK) the USA, Canada, UAE.
  • Tests are also stocked in some partner pharmacies like CVS, Lloyds, Boots, etc.

Note: LetsGetChecked tests are not available (yet) in Australia and New Zealand, but due to the growth of the company, it can be possible in the near future. Contact me if you are in these countries for alternative options.

Then the process is simple:

  1. 1
You have to prick your finger with the supplied lancet
  2. 2
Collect the blood in the tube (make sure to obtain enough blood for the testing)
  3. 3
Put the tube into the labeled box and then pack it into the mail envelope that was provided with the box
  4. 4
Send your sample to LetsGetChecked for testing

This video above explains how the testing process works.

Normally, results are available from your online account within 2-5 days.

Note: You have to activate your kit online and answer a number of questions before starting the test. Also, you have to send the sample within 24 hours in order to receive accurate results. You don't have to pay for shipping and there are no hidden fees.

Complete Privacy of Your Data

LetsGetChecked provides absolute security of your sensitive data. You’ll receive an anonymized kit in a plain envelope and no reference to LetsGetChecked or your personal information.

There will be only anonymized patient ID and barcode. This is especially convenient if you’d like to check your sexual health in absolute privacy, without other people knowing about it.

Also, visiting the clinic and lab to do STD can be stressful and embarrassing. Many students find testing at home more comfortable and secure than visiting a hospital.

With LetsGetChecked, nobody will know about your testing and health issues, unless you want to share this information with your family or doctor. Only you will have access to your online account and results.

Professional Assistance of Certified Clinicians

What is the next step when your results are ready?

That is the best part and what makes LetsGetChecked unique. Looking at your results, you might think “How can I interpret all those numbers? I’ll still have to schedule an appointment with my doctor...”.

NO, you won’t have to search in Google the meaning of the numbers or visit your doctor to get some explanations. Everything is much easier.

As soon as your results are ready, you’ll receive a notification via email and a call from a nurse. The specialist of LetsGetChecked will guide you through your results and provide dietary recommendations and medical assistance to help you restore your health.

Moreover, in case your levels in any of the categories are out of the norm, LetsGetChecked will recommend if you should consult with a doctor - or if you want a holistic treatment plan you can Schedule a Consultation with Planet Naturopath.

For all these services you won't have to pay additional fees. It sounds like a dream. LetsGetChecked deserves additional points for such an approach to patients!

LetsGetChecked vs DirectLabs

LetsGetChecked is not the only online solution. You may find its competitors who provide similar services at affordable prices. For instance, one of the popular companies in the US selling online tests is DirectLabs.

DirectLabs is an online lab service catering a wide variety of tests to individual consumers, healthcare providers, and associations. You may find a lot of great feedback about DirectLabs, still, their online services are not perfect and require some updates.

The listed prices are higher due to the additional features like a consultation with the letsgetchecked tests - but if you use the coupon code PLANET the prices are similar.

DirectLabs just give you the hard numbers that you have to show to your doctor.

The range of LetsGetChecked tests is not as wide as the one DirectLabs offers. This is the main reason why you may consider other labs for testing. Nevertheless, LetsGetChecked is one of the most promising companies. So, I won't be surprised, to see new tests available soon.

Comparing the pros and cons of both companies, letsgetchecked is a clear winner when it comes to convenience and the reporting of results.

Tips for Blood Testing

Using the kit from LetsGetChecked is extremely easy. However, some factors influence the accuracy of your results. Check out a few tips on how to prepare for a blood test:

  • We suggest taking it between Monday & Wednesday so the sample doesn't get stuck in the post office over the weekend!
  • Most accurate when taken first thing in the morning and while fasting. No food or drinks except for water, consume drinks or chew gums 8-12 hours before testing).
  • Make sure your hands are warm when collecting the sample, you are standing up and you are well hydrated.
  • Always helps increase blood flow if you do a few jumping jacks or go for a brisk walk before taking the sample!

If you have fear of doing test alone, invite a support buddy. Relax and get it done!

Letsgetchecked Thyroid Test Review

Here is my LetsGetChecked review of my thyroid results

It has been a while since I have done a complete thyroid test so I was curious to check out my results, plus check out how convenient it is to do the test at home.

Most doctors only test TSH levels, but it is essential to do a full thyroid test to get a better understanding of your thyroid function.

The thyroid test kit included a special lancet which made doing the finger prick fairly painless, and I was easily able to collect the required blood.

The test kit was shipped via UPS couriers to the lab and a few days later I had the results delivered to my personal dashboard. Within a couple of hours, I had spoken to a knowledgeable nurse who explained my results, and while I have a good knowledge of thyroid function this is invaluable for people who may have been previously told that everything is "fine".
