HFL Inflame and Pain Relief Review (My Experience)

I had not heard of HFL products until last year when a client was raving about the benefits he had received from the HFL Inflame and Pain Relief formula, instantly my natural skepticism kicked in as this was a company I had not heard about before.

I googled the ingredients of the HFL Inflame and Pain Relief formula thinking I was going to find another crappy product with some great sounding ingredients in a special “proprietary” formula - with formulas like this you have no real idea of what is in them.

How wrong I was!

The first thing that I noticed was a complete list of ingredients with the exact milligrams of each ingredient, but then I noticed the detail and research that had gone into making this product, for example, for Tumeric/ Curcumin they use a combination of two of the best-researched forms of Tumeric.

Poor quality products will just list Tumeric or Curcumin but the HFL Inflame and Pain Relief formula uses a blend of C3 Reduct® and BCM-95® so when I saw this I knew this had to be a good quality product.

I checked out the other 11 ingredients and it was a similar story, high-quality herbs, and nutrients in the right formulation that has been well studied in the research with no additives and fillers.

Why Pain and Inflammation Supplements

I have tried a few different formulations with limited success, while overall I am generally super healthy and focus on eating a great diet, for the last year I have been getting a lot of shoulder pain.

Shoulder pain is annoying, especially if you are a tennis fanatic like me or into other sports.

I tried physiotherapy, and acupuncture with some success but the benefits did not last which is why I was keen to try the HFL Inflame and Pain formula.

So, it is just over a month now with taking this supplement, I plan on doing a 3-month trial which I think is important to get the full benefit, but even after a month, I am getting good results. Less pain after tennis, and now with less tennis in the past week because of the Coronavirus restrictions I have been able to do chin-ups, TRX exercises and other bodyweight exercises that I have not been able to do for a while.

HFL Inflame and Pain Ingredients

Curcumin is an extract from turmeric that is probably the most studied compound when it comes to natural medicine and inflammation, there are over 14,000 research papers on PubMed for Curcumin.

Trials on the BCM-95 version of curcumin show that it is more effective than Voltaren with fewer side effects after one month of treatment for knee pain.

Not only is curcumin great for reducing pain but it can reduce overall inflammation levels, and inflammation is the driving force behind a wide range of chronic diseases from heart disease and diabetes to dementia and cancer.

While the Tumeric/ Curcumin is the main ingredient in HFL Pain and Inflame there are 10 other herbs and nutrients that have a synergistic effect to help reduce inflammation.

Ginger Extract

Ginger is great for many things and has been used in traditional medicine for many years, in particular, to help with digestive problems.

The active ingredient Gingerols has 96 published studies showing it’s effectiveness on inflammation which can improve a wide range of health problems.

Boswellia serrata

The Inflame and Pain formula uses the AprèsFlex® Boswellia Serrata version of Boswellia and this has been shown to be more potent than standard Boswellia supplements.

Boswellia is a herb that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and it now has the research to back up what traditional healers have known forever, that it is great for reducing inflammation and pain. In particular, joint pain and this has probably been a major factor in my shoulder healing.

Green Tea Extract

Theaflavin and EGCG are the active ingredients in Pain and Inflame - it seems that green tea is basically good for “everything”, and is another well studied natural medicine that has over 400 studies showing the benefits of Green Tea and inflammation.

White Willow Bark

Salicin is the active ingredient, this is another famous natural herb that has been used for centuries for pain, in fact, this was the inspiration for the drug aspirin which is one of the most widely used drugs for inflammation.

Pycnogenol® is the patented formulation of Pine Bark Extract and a review of the literature shows that it can reduce CRP levels (inflammation marker) which is associated with a wide range of chronic diseases.

While more studies may be needed for this compound to be accepted for its anti-inflammatory properties I have seen a number of promising results in clients who have autoimmune conditions.

Astragin® is a patented compound made from Astragalus (one of my favorite immune herbs) and ginseng - this was a new ingredient for me and upon further research, it is used to increase the absorption and efficacy of the other ingredients.

AstraGin can also improve gut health by improving mucosal integrity which is a bonus.

Japanese Knotweed

Trans-resveratrol is the active ingredient, this is also found in red grapes which is why red wine can be marketed as “health-promoting” even though you would need to drink a lot to get a therapeutic effect.

Trans-resveratrol has over 12,000 studies on PubMed and has found to have anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic and antidiabetic properties.

Uncaria Tomentosa

Also known as Cats Claw and it is another traditional herbal medicine remedy, this time from the Amazon, that has been shown to reduce inflammation and have immune modulation effects.

Quercetin Phytosome

When I think of Quercetin I usually think of the benefits that it has on reducing allergy symptoms, but this is probably because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

The HFL Inflame and Pain formula contains the patented extract from Andrographis called Paractin®, I normally think of Andrographis as an immune herb but research shows that the Paractin helps with mild to moderate osteoarthritis using 300mg a day.

So while there are the “classic” anti-inflammatory ingredients in the HFL Inflame and Pain formula there are also a couple of surprises like Andrographis, Quercetin, and AstraGin from Astragalus, but now that I have done further research this makes total sense.

Who Would Benefit From Inflammation Supplements

Obviously, anyone with pain and inflammation will benefit from Inflame and Pain, this can be both chronic and acute conditions.

Acute conditions include:

  • Sprain or soft tissue injury
  • Flare-up of tendonitis
  • PMS and menstrual cramps
  • Hayfever
  • Dental Pain

Chronic conditions include:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Chronic Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Any chronic health condition as most have inflammation as the key driver

What about taking turmeric and ginger as part of a healthy diet?

While it would be great to include these spices they may not have the effect that the supplements can give you as they don’t contain enough of the active ingredients unless you eat quite a lot of them.

Who Makes HFL Inflame and Pain

Health Fitness and Longevity is the company behind HFL and it was set up by Dr. Sam Robbins who is an anti-aging and hormone specialist.

Compared to other companies they don’t have a lot of products, currently, they have 10 products focused on inflammation, brain health, cardiovascular, hormones, weight loss, and blood sugar control - all things that will help you with longevity.

The HFL company has been around for more than 20 years and I like the way that the products have kept up with the latest research.
